A binman had a lucky escape when a speeding car crashed into the back of his wagon while he was riding on the back. SmartWitness dash cam footage captured the binman’s dramatic escape. The footage shows a car recklessly speeding up to 53 miles an hour (86kph) in a heavily built-up area.

SVC1080-LCA (Rear Angle)The driver slams on the brakes as a bin wagon pulls out into his path with the binman hanging on the rear of the truck.

He luckily avoids injury as the car clips the side of the bin wagon.

The video ends with the binman stepping down from the wagon and looking angrily at the car driver.

SmartWitness sales have shot up 30% in the last year as increasing numbers of drivers adopt vehicle CCTV to reduce insurance premiums and guard against cash-for-crash fraud.

Just 2% of accidents captured on SmartWitness cameras result in disputed claims against an industry norm of 40% of all motor claims.

SmartWitness sales have been buoyant because its footage is court admissible.

This new crash footage was shot with a KP1 – the most powerful and advanced accident camera in the world.

It provides instant notification with videos of incidents in less than 60 seconds after a collision.

Mark Berry, SmartWitness international sales manager, said: “The great thing about SmartWitness footage is it shows exactly who is to blame following an accident.

“In this case, both drivers were at fault.

“Most of the blame lies with the car driver who crazily accelerates to 53 miles an hour in a heavily built-up area. But the bin lorry driver is not blameless either because he should not have been pulled out into on-coming traffic when the road was not clear, especially when he had a binman hanging on the back!

“Both drivers would have been embarrassed when they reviewed the footage.”
