Volvo Trucks has received the honour of being the sole supplier of vehicles used to transport Team Scotland’s top athletes who competed in the XX Commonwealth Games, in a historic parade through the heart of the city of Glasgow.CGE14155-213The athlete’s parade, which took place on the evening of Friday, 15th August, was organised by Sport Scotland as a fitting finale to the tremendously successful XX Commonwealth Games.

Volvo Trucks Managing Director Arne Knaben expressed the company’s delight at having been chosen as exclusive supplier of the transport for the athlete’s parade, saying: “I speak for everyone at Volvo Trucks and our Dealer Network, especially in Scotland, when I say that we feel honoured and indeed humbled to have been chosen to help transport Team Scotland’s athletes in the parade across this great city, which played host so magnificently to such an immensely successful Commonwealth Games. I know our trucks are only playing a minute supporting role in the overall perspective of the Games, however it is a role we are very proud to play and humbly accept.”

Team Scotland’s elite athletes, who enjoyed their best ever performance at a Commonwealth Games, with a record 19 gold medals and 53 overall, travelled along the parade’s two mile route on the trailers of five specially-prepared Volvo FH artics.

The lead truck in the parade, a new series Volvo FH 6×2 tractor unit was supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, Cardonald. The other four Volvos to transport their precious cargo of elite sportsmen and women were Classic FHs supplied by Volvo Group Used Trucks.

Volvo Trucks Fuelwatch Manager Alan Ingram was accorded the privilege of driving the big FH in front of the tens of thousands of cheering spectator lining the route, which started in Kelvingrove Park and then travelled the length of Glasgow’s famous Sauchiehall and Argyle Streets.

The trucks and trailers with their famous passengers, were finally welcomed by crowds of spectators who packed into the finishing area in George Square.
