Transdek UK is launching a new 52-pallet Curtainside Wedge double deck trailer at the CV Show, NEC Birmingham on 30 April to 2 May. The company will also be exhibiting a 10.6-metre Urban Wedge double decker and one of its latest V2G modular loading pods on stand 3C40.

The curtainside trailer offers the same focus on internal clearance over the neck as Transdek’s box van Wedges, and carries 52 pallet equivalents up to 1760mm tall. Its added side-loading capability is aimed at expanding maximum-capacity double deck opportunities on both outbound and inbound journeys.

Transdek has developed an innovative side post socket design for the trailer, which strengthens the side columns by transferring load to the chassis beams. The company claims this will increase durability compared to conventional curtainside builds.

Reinforced slimline cantrails and second deck support beams provide internal widths of up to 2470mm. A 40mm aluminium plank second deck and 30mm roof maximise internal clearance on each deck. The trailer runs on a 1250mm fifth wheel with an overall height of 4950mm.

Mark Adams, CEO at Transdek, says, “We wanted to create a double deck trailer that, as well as maximising payload capacity on trunking and retail deliveries, offers companies the flexibility to gain the same mileage and cost savings on their backhaul and primary operations.

Our Curtainside Wedge trailer offers the potential to really look at making significant mileage and cost savings whether sites have our double deck lift pods fitted or side load with forklifts.”

Also exhibited on the stand, Transdek’s latest ambient box van Urban Wedge trailer offers a 40-pallet, 20-tonne payload capacity, up to 166% more than a typical 18-tonne rigid. The trailer, which carries pallets or cages up to 1862mm tall, aims to cut urban HGV mileages by as much as 62%.

Adams continues, “Our Urban Wedge gives a straight 100% extra load compared to equivalent urban artics, and it has a tighter turning circle and better manoeuvrability than smaller rigids. We’ve trialled it on deliveries to some convenience stores with really tight access, and it managed the routes without a problem.”

The Urban Wedge on the stand has a 1070mm fifth wheel and an overall height of 4950mm. It is fitted with Transdek’s brand new taillift design, which incorporates fold-down safety rails and gates to the three open sides, as well as a hydraulically powered drop-down flap.

Patents have been applied for on the taillift design, including a new safety programme that eliminates the trap hazard caused if taillift platforms bind when raised at ground level.

Transdek will also be running live demonstrations of its latest V2G modular loading pods, highlighting the product’s ease of install and operation. The V2G lift is supplied as a self contained loadhouse unit to service the loading of all vehicle types, from double deckers to dot.com vans, at flat-floor loading bays.
