The logistics sector in Wales and Shropshire has been given a significant boost the official opening of local logistic firm Speed Welshpool’s new £150k depot.Speed Welshpool

The Palletways network member’s depot, which has been developed on a 3.5 acre brownfield site at Buttington Quarry, Welshpool, is expected to provide around 20 jobs over the next 12 months.

The state-of-the-art depot not only offers new employment opportunities but will also help local businesses by offering greater warehousing capacity through its new 15,220 sq ft storage facility and extending the hours for next day delivery – meaning customers can place orders later in the evening while still receiving a full-trackable, express service.

Phil Edwards, Principal of Speed Welshpool, said: “The launch of our new facility is a big achievement for our business. We have grown from just 10 staff in 2010 to over 40 staff today, and hope that this development will provide the foundations for further success in the future”.

“As part of the Palletways network, the new facilities will enable us to collect consignments from local businesses later in the day, while still offering next day delivery across Europe, getting their goods to market faster than ever before”.

The firm is already looking to appoint a Transport Office Manager to maintain its high performance levels to both its parcel and pallet customers alike.

Speed Welshpool is one of over 100 members in the Palletways UK network – Europe’s largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network. The company’s distribution networks are made up of independent transport companies who share each other’s resources to deliver small consignments of palletised freight to market faster and more cost effectively than ever before.
