Kent-based haulier Salvatori has taken delivery of 12 new Schmitz Cargobull Euroliners (S.CS UNIVERSAL) as the company standardises on the European-specification trailer for the curtainsiders within its general haulage fleet.

Schmitz CargobullThe new Euroliners, which were delivered into Salvatori’s Calais operation and then transported to the UK, will be a mixture of both fleet additions and replacements for the company’s older curtainsiders.

They join the 14 S.CS FREEPOST curtainsider trailers currently in service, which are used for the company’s fruit distribution business.

Phill Macey, Transport Manager at Salvatori says: “We really wanted to upgrade our fleet and make it even more versatile. The Euroliners can do exactly the same job as a UK-spec curtainsider, but with the added benefit of loading through the roof when the customer requires it. Given we do a lot of work on the Continent, it made perfect business sense.

“The 14 FREEPOST trailers we took delivery of in 2009 for our fruit operation have proven to be a huge benefit to our operation and we expect to get the same high performance and reliability from these Euroliners.”

Salvatori, which is a member of The Pallet Network, has 45 commercial vehicles, including vans, rigid trucks and artics, plus 90 trailers in its fleet.

The S.CS UNIVERSAL weighs approximately 500kg less than a standard UK curtainsider, guaranteeing an ultra-competitive payload capacity and a load space which can accommodate up to 34 Euro pallets. Lower weight also has the benefit of reduced fuel consumption and typically customers moving over to this more modern trailer are seeing savings of up to £500 per annum. The unit achieves this whilst meeting the European Standard EN 12642 (Code XL), which ensures the trailer will retain its cargo in the event of an incident. The load securing system is required when the load is not a “positive fit” and of varying heights.

Built at the company’s Altenberge factory in Germany, each Euroliner features Schmitz Cargobull’s ROTOS® running gear, which includes a complete range of unique innovations as standard. This includes a maintenance-free bearing, an innovative ventilation system for the disc brakes, the weight-optimised brake calliper, the multi-ride-height pneumatic suspension for every ramp height along with the standard trailer EBS (Electronic Braking System) with RSP (Roll Stability Program).
