US company Lytx , a global leader in delivering video-based driver safety and compliance solutions, announced today that Lytx is a sponsor of the US National Truck Driving Championships, which will take place on August 14-16 at the David Lawrence Convention Centre in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

DriveCam_camera_in_cabMore than 400 top professional truck drivers from across the US are entered in the 77th annual “Super Bowl of Safety,” the 2014 National Truck Driving Championships and National Step Van Driving Championships, hosted by American Trucking Associations. All competition vehicles will be outfitted with the company’s DriveCam powered by Lytx technology — specifically modified for competition purposes – to capture positive driving behaviours during the event.

The championships include top professional truck drivers from around the United States who have competed at company, state and regional levels to make it to the national competition. The NTDC annually attracts over 2,000 cheering friends, family, colleagues and spectators.

“We are delighted to help sponsor this event that showcases the best and safest drivers on the road today and celebrates their achievements,” said Rob Bartels, senior vice president, trucking, Lytx, Inc.  “We share a common goal of truck driving safety and we at Lytx look forward to demonstrating our industry-leading DriveCam Programme that can make safe drivers even safer.”

Lytx is producing a video compilation of the competition, including actual DriveCam video clips, which will be played on the morning of August 16 during the announcement of the finalists, and again that night during the event’s awards ceremony.  In addition, Lytx will also be offering a behind-the-scenes experience with real-time tweets during the driving portion of the competition on Thursday and Friday, August 14 and 15.

DriveCam powered by Lytx helps to prevent incidents, reduce injuries and save lives by combining video with predictive analytics, real-time driver feedback and coaching, empowering fleets to identify and correct the driving behaviours that lead to 90% of collisions. A recent Virginia Tech Transportation Institute study shows that more than 800 lives could be saved each year using video-based driver safety technology, and that the DriveCam Programme alone could prevent more than 25,000 commercial vehicle collisions and nearly 40,000 injuries annually.
