ChassisCab – the Suffolk and Cambridgeshire-based DAF family-owned dealership – has delivered over £500,000 worth of new trucks to East Anglian-based foodservice specialist Thomas Ridley who supply chilled, ambient and frozen solutions to the catering industry ranging from pubs to schools and from hotels to hospitals.New 'Greener' Vehicles for Thomas Ridley just delivered from ChassisCab

The company has taken delivery of six new multi-temperature DAF EURO 5 LF vehicles specially designed for distribution and urban delivery. These new cleaner, ‘greener’ vehicles include automatic gear boxes which increase fuel efficiency and use low emission diesel. They also include tracking monitors to record speed and fuel consumption – and by incorporating the latest vehicle routing software – Thomas Ridley is able to keep delivered food miles to a minimum.

All the chillers on the new trucks use environmentally friendly coolant and refrigerant; running off separate electrical generators in the engine further reducing noise and emissions.

To coincide with the new truck investment Thomas Ridley is introducing an additional 14,000sq ft/1300sq m of frozen and chilled storage which will be in full operational use in 2014. A new lorry wash using recycled water is also now in use.

Paul Farrow, Distribution Manager at Thomas Ridley Foodservice, explains that the new vehicles are a part of the company’s ongoing fleet improvement service: ‘We are delighted to be adding this latest set of environment-friendly vehicles to the fleet as they are just perfect for the type of work we do. We are expanding into new market segments and our customer base is increasing year on year and so we are looking to secure the optimal transport resource possible to cope with this additional business.’

‘It is clearly also important for us as a growing company to keep our vehicles as fuel and emissions efficient as possible and to present the best image to our customers deliveries.’

‘Many of our deliveries take our drivers into London, particularly to schools and the wider education sector, and for this reason we need to keep our transport up to date with the latest and more stringent emissions standards set by The Low Emission Zone (LEZ). We are working very hard to minimise our impact on the environment – and that’s good news for everyone.’

The order is one of the largest received so far this year by ChassisCab, who have bases at Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds. The new trucks will be delivered in March 2014.

Robert Baxter, Dealer Principal, at ChassisCab, said: ‘We are extremely proud to be supplying another bulk order of trucks to Thomas Ridley which will help them to deal with their ever increasing delivery workload. We know that they will be benefitting from the lowest cost of ownership combined with the highest possible profit per mile, all while keeping their fleet operating at its optimum in terms of green efficiency.’

‘The DAF Euro 6 LFs supplied have excellent driving properties and excellent manoeuvrability which makes them ideal for this sort of distribution work where they are often delivering in tight or confined spaces – and as they are all covered by comprehensive repair and maintenance contracts the company should be able to keep its customers topped up with tasty food at all times!’

ChassisCab is a family owned business that has been the main DAF dealer for Suffolk since the early 1990s and DAF Service Dealer for Cambridgeshire since 2006. Starting out as a commercial vehicle accident repair centre, ChassisCab has grown to become one of the premier dealers for DAF and a leading supplier of trucks in the region.

Based at Addison Way in Great Blakenham, Northern Way in Bury St Edmunds, and at Isleham in Cambridgeshire, ChassisCab now employs over 110 members of staff between its three separate locations.
