Cenex – the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for low carbon and fuel cell technologies and the organiser of the UK’s largest technology showcasing and networking event for the UK low carbon vehicle community (www.cenex-lcv.co.uk), today announced it will be hosting its first-ever Heavy Duty Vehicle (HDV) Arena at this year’s Cenex LCV2014. The HDV Arena, supported by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the Transport Community at the KTN will be a brand new exhibition space at LCV2014, taking place on 10 and 11 September at Millbrook Proving Ground.

Throughout the two-day event, The HDV Arena will feature a variety of truck operators and consortia members from the Low Carbon Truck Trial. The Trial, which aims to initiate a publicly-accessible gas refuelling network in the UK, is co-funded by the TSB and the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and has already been provided with £11.3m from Government.

Once in full swing, the trial will deploy over 360 low carbon trucks (including dual fuel gas, dedicated gas, used cooking oil and aerodynamic trailer technologies) with supporting publicly available refuelling infrastructure enabling other UK fleets to make the dash to low carbon HDV fuels. Members of the trial team will be on hand to talk about the trial, its current progress and advise delegates on the technology available for the HDV sector. Furthermore the latest performance figures from the trial vehicles, currently racking up well over 1,000,000 miles a month, will be presented by Cenex in a conference seminar session dedicated to the subject of Delivering Carbon Savings in Logistics.

The HDV Arena will also have a map on display highlighting the current refuelling station infrastructure in the UK, providing an opportunity for fleets to mark where they believe additional refuelling infrastructure is needed to provide the UK with a UK-wide network. The outcome of which will be included in a report to inform government decision makers and refuelling station suppliers. In addition to an indoor display, there will be an outdoor HDV area showcasing a variety of low carbon vehicle technologies that are available in the HDV sector.

Robert Evans, CEO of Cenex said, “We are extremely excited at the addition of the HDV Arena at this year’s LCV2014 event and we would like to thank the TSB and The Transport Community at the KTN for their support. There is a huge demand to cut emissions in the HDV sector and this showcase will prove that it can be done. HDV is a growing market and we are hopeful that the arena will prove invaluable to those in the sector.”

Tessa Darley, Head of Transport at KTN said, “With the KTN having been instrumental in bringing together a number of the competition participants, it will be great to see successful Low Carbon Truck Trial projects showcasing at LCV2014. This new HDV Arena will undoubtedly provide inspiration to potential new entrants to this expanding market.”
There will be a Heavy Duty Vehicle session entitled: “Logistics: Delivering the Low Carbon Future” in Dome 2 on day 1 of LCV2014 (3pm-4.30pm).  The session will provide an overview of the Low Carbon Truck Trial by Chris Walsh of Cenex, followed by a series of presentations, chaired by Andy Eastlake, Managing Director of LowCVP.
