Proven build quality coupled with first class aftercare persuaded Bibby Distribution to specify its first Euro VI rigid trucks with curtainside bodies by Bevan Group.

The additional volumes now being handled by its ‘through-the-night’, shared-user distribution operation have also allowed Bibby to drive service improvements for other, established customers.

Bevan Group is a long-standing supplier to Bibby Distribution, one of the UK’s top ten logistics providers. Bevan built the new trucks’ 8.6m bodies, and installed their 1,500kg Dhollandia tail-lifts, at its main production facility in Halesowen, West Midlands.

As a no-cost option it also fitted flooring boards with a durable, high-visibility yellow phenolic coating towards the rear of the body, as an additional safety feature to warn operatives of the risk of falls.

Bibby Distribution Fleet Manager Adam Purshall is responsible for some 750 trucks. He confirms: “We set the Bevan team a very tight delivery schedule for these latest vehicles and, true to form, they managed to achieve it.

“Bevan is a trusted supplier,” he continues. “Experience has shown its products to be reliable, robust and well suited to our applications. The company is also highly customer-focused while, from a warranty point of view, its mobile back-up service is excellent.”

Under the new contract Bibby Distribution is responsible for collecting VOR and stock order parts – ranging in size from body panels to valve caps – from its customer’s central warehouse.

The parts are then trunked to six strategically located outbases where they are merged with other automotive consignments before being transhipped onto the rigid vehicles for final delivery to dealerships before 8am the next day.

Bibby Distribution has taken on 25 additional staff to support its new contract, which utilises GPS-tracked vehicles for maximum security at all stages, from collection to final delivery.

Stylish in appearance, and highly efficient in operation, the Euro VI Antos is a recent addition to the Mercedes-Benz range. Bibby’s latest vehicles are all 175 kW (238 hp) Antos 1824 models, and form part of an order for 200 trucks bearing the three-pointed star, the vast majority of them New Actros tractor units.
