Axtec (Axle Weight Technology Limited), the axle weighing specialists will again be at the CV Show (Stand 4K58) to provide details of its comprehensive range of axle weighing solutions that enable companies to run at maximum payload and within the law.
Axtec On Board

These include on-board systems delivering axle load information continuously during the operation of a vehicle, to dynamic weighbridge installations and temporary portable weighpad systems. Because these provide both individual axle and gross vehicle loadings this removes the risk of a vehicle being within its legal gross weight yet overloaded on an individual axle – a risk during multi-drop or multi-pick up operations.

Already well proven in thousands of vehicles, the Axtec On-Board system provides information to the driver in a simple colour-coded graphic/numeric display showing the load condition of each axle and the gross weight. It can be used in vehicles from light vans to two or three-axle rigid vehicles, both steel sprung or air suspended, up to 26 tonnes.

This robust system is activated as soon as the ignition switch is turned on and cannot be turned off or tampered with. Options include the ability to link it to a reversing camera, thus removing the need to have two screens in the cab; the ability to store overload information for later download; and where a tracking device is fitted, the ability to provide live load condition information direct to the traffic office.

The Axtec Dynamic weighbridge is a fixed installation which holds two test certificates; one for accuracy to within 0.5% and the other to within 0.25%, making it the most accurate of its type in the world! These are widely used in the public sector and in the waste and recycling industry and are the only dynamic weighbridge approved for public use. With a small footprint of just two square metres they are ideal for sites where space is at a premium.

Where a temporary axle weighing facility is required the company can offer portable weighpads both for sale or for hire. These highly accurate devices are powered by rechargeable internal batteries allowing them to be used away from a power source on any level surface. One person can easily carry them and they are available as 1, 2, 4 and 6 pad systems to accommodate a variety of truck and trailer configurations and provide individual axle, bogie or gross vehicle/train weights.

Established in 1991 and based at Runcorn in Cheshire, Axtec can provide these off-the-shelf systems or work in partnership with customers to develop custom-made solutions to their axle and vehicle weighing needs. The in-house software design team is able to write programmes for special applications and the company has its own civil engineering department with directly-employed teams to undertake the necessary groundworks to ensure absolute accuracy of installation.

Axtec is the sole contractor to VOSA for the calibration and maintenance of its 88 roadside enforcement weighbridges across mainland Britain, many of which are Axtec Dynamic weighbridges. This particularly demanding contract requires that Axtec maintains availability at in excess of 97% and the company has always exceeded this target.
