Commenting, RHA chief executive Richard Burnett said: “ Based on the success of last year’s event, we were confident that Love the Lorry 2016 would be just as good but we didn’t realise just how successful this year’s event would be. We’re only one day in and already the response from members has been phenomenal. The number of events around the country has increased, not only in number but also in size.  Hauliers are opening their premises, holding events at sports stadiums and town centres, at theme parks and family fun days. We’re thrilled to see lorry lovers are turning up in droves to find out more about the industry that delivers their daily life.

The theme of this year’s Love the Lorry week is ‘The Next Generation’. So in addition to the public events, members are holding schools workshops with the focus on road and cycle safety, career opportunities and logistics.

On September 14 the RHA held a National Lorry Week reception at the House of Commons to raise awareness of the industry among MPs.

“We were delighted to welcome the Minister of State for Transport, John Hayes,” Richard Burnett continued. “As minister for freight and logistics, it was quite a surprise to learn that he already had family ties with our industry – his uncle was a long distance truck driver.  We were particularly pleased
hear him say ‘So when we say we love lorries, we love them because of the difference they make to jobs, to the economy.’

“We are confident that by the end of the week, those left who still don’t actually love the lorry will certainly be aware of the important role trucks play in their everyday life.”
