Based on the highly successful YT range of distribution tractors manufactured by Terberg, the YT202-EV 4×2 electric truck will be making its UK debut at the CV Show in April as the centrepiece of the Terberg DTS stand.

“The all-electric tractor is a real breakthrough for Terberg. In recent years there has been such progress in battery technology that Terberg decided to develop a fully electric tractor, rather than a hybrid drive tractor,” said Alisdair Couper, managing director, Terberg DTS, “The key advantages are that the electric system is uncomplicated and therefore the cost is relatively low and requires little maintenance.”

“It is also extremely environmentally friendly as there are zero emissions, the noise level is low and the new battery technology means that the tractor can operate for a full shift of between 8 to 16 hours, after which it can be recharged in under 1.5 hours,” commented Alisdair Couper.

Terberg estimates that the battery has a life of around 3500 to 5000 charge cycles, or about 5 to 7 years, giving operators a truck with a comparable working life and performance to traditionally fuelled vehicles.

The first Terberg YT202-EV all-electric distribution tractor has recently completed a successful set of working trials here in the UK with a leading dairy manufacturer, where its on-site performance was found to match the overall performance of company’s existing diesel fuelled tractors.

With a capacity to handle a 34 t load on the fifth wheel, Terberg says that the newly introduced all-electric distribution tractor will feature the same operational options, in terms of cab and chassis alternatives, as its traditional YT range of tractors.

“Terberg has a history of continuously developing its products to stay ahead of the market and the all-electric tractor is no exception. For many years, customers have been asking us to develop a hybrid drive tractor, however, we felt that the high initial cost would lead to an unacceptably high total cost of ownership,” said Alisdair Couper, explaining why Terberg went for a fully electric model to meet with this customer demand.
