Fleetminder, the fleet maintenance and workshop management software supplier, has launched FM Smartcheck, a mobile phone based app designed for drivers’ daily walkaround checks.

The focus on roadworthiness and compliance has never been greater.  Meeting these standards ensures roadworthiness and improves safety and the driver daily walkaround check is key to achieving these standards.
With FM SmartCheck you can remove the time consuming, inaccurate and inflexible paper trail: the defect check process becomes all you need it to be: accurate, immediate and interactive.
When drivers identify defects, they are informed of related severity and instructed, according to your own rules, to continue with the journey, seek advice or even “ground” the vehicle.
Completed reports are sent back immediately to WebView, an online management dashboard, where management can view defect report progress across the fleet, wherever vehicles are located.

The owner / manager is alerted to any defects identified by the driver and when viewing the detail, including photos taken is better informed when making repair decisions across the fleet.  The more distributed that fleet the more value FM SmartCheck delivers!
The owner /’ transport manager is alerted to any expected reports that have not arrived as well, so he or she can follow up and make sure the fleet is 100 per cent compliant.
Being a smartphone app and web based, FM SmartCheck is completely scalable, suiting fleets of one to several thousand, HGV, PSV or LGV; there are templates to suit every commercial fleet and all on low cost “pay as you save”!
Drivers complete their walkaround checks and record information on a smartphone, and the reports are then available instantly to management – both in the form of an email that is sent to relevant people, and via the online WebView dashboard.
SmartCheck uses a VOSA/RSA compliant ‘intelligent’ checklist process, which takes the driver around the vehicle in the standard anti-clockwise sequence. Red, amber and green alerts are used for defects, based on their impact on safety, and the driver completes a declaration and sign off.

The actual cash saving when you remove the paper based defect reports, is small but the savings in distribution, collection, data entry and storage etc, add up over time.

The peace of mind, knowing that all daily checks are completed, even when the vehicle is on the road overnight, has value.  As well as knowing who has and who hasn’t, completed their checks.  The main savings come when you use the readily available defect data to schedule action.
Defects identified are reported immediately and passed on to the service department without delay; a repair, including parts and labour, could be scheduled to suit resource and driving patterns.  This means that management has the option to rectify defects when vehicles return to base, rather than allowing them to back up.  This results in major improvements in repair efficiency.
Repetitive defects, such as repeated fluid top ups, can now be easily identified and the true source of the issue can be rectified. Potentially serious defects can be identified before they become major, with significant savings in terms of cost of repair and VOR time.
SmartCheck allows drivers to take photos and include them with their reports, which helps when vehicles are away from the depot. Managers can decide whether action needs to be taken immediately, or when the vehicle is next in the workshop.
Photos may also be used in the incident reporting feature in FM SmartCheck, which allows drivers to record all details associated with an accident or incident; a real benefit in easing insurance claims and issues.
